Keyword research is the process of identifying the most relevant key terms and phrases your target audience uses to search for the products, services, or content you offer. It is a critical component for SEO, since it helps you align your website with user search intent, thereby increasing the chances of appearing in relevant search results. Typically, it’s one of the first steps in an SEO project, helping inform content strategies, optimise pages, and drive targeted organic traffic.

Two of the more popular types of general keyword research that I offer are:

Keyword Discovery: The initial exploration of your ‘keyword universe’ (the set of terms and phrases that relate to your product or service). This is normally needed when you haven’t undertaken this research before, either for your site, or for a section of your site. This helps identify relevant terms that align with your business goals and target audience, using tools like Google Keyword Planner, SE Ranking, Ahrefs, and SEMrush.
Keyword List Expansion: I’ll take an existing list of known terms and expand this list through additional research in order to further refine and expand our understanding of how your target users search.
